The foreign ministry in Hanoi on Thursday called on China to immediately order a state-owned survey vessel along with several Coast Guard escorts to leave Vietnamese-claimed waters in its exclusive economic zone, which stretches 200 nautical miles from its coast.
On April 3, Vietnamese state firm, PetroVietnam, issued the following and unusually blunt statement on its website: “The East Sea is forecast to continue to have uncertainty this year...affecting the company’s efforts to attract foreign investors to invest in its open offshore fields.”

SOCO, an international oil and gas E&P company, announces that the Hoang Long Joint Operating Company has received from the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam the formal approval of the updated Full Field Development Plan (FFDP) for the Te Giac Trang (TGT) field, offshore southern Vietnam.
With a dense population and, therefore, a growing energy demand, Southeast Asia relies heavily on the oil and gas industry. This urgency has given rise to the region’s E&P efforts during an industry downturn, as producers have been forced to contend with low prices and aging fields.
