Aker BP to receive additional 2.2 MMboe after Johan Sverdrup review
(WO) — Aker BP has increased its ownership interest in the giant Johan Sverdrup field following the completion of a redetermination process among the field's partners.
The company's stake in Johan Sverdrup will increase to 31.7163% from 31.5733%, reflecting updated technical and production data reviewed as part of the redetermination process initiated in early 2025.
As a result of the revised ownership interests, Aker BP expects to receive an additional 2.2 MMboe over the next two years through the reallocation of historic production volumes among the partners.
The company will also pay approximately NOK 300 million before tax related to the reallocation of historic investments associated with the field.
The revised ownership interest will be reflected in Aker BP's financial results beginning in the third quarter of 2026.
Johan Sverdrup, operated by Equinor, is one of the largest producing oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf and remains a cornerstone asset for both Equinor and its partners. The redetermination does not affect ongoing operations at the field, which continues to deliver strong production performance.
The redetermination process was conducted in accordance with the Johan Sverdrup unit agreement and included an expert assessment of updated reservoir, production and technical data used to recalculate partner ownership interests.
