June 03, 2026

(WO) — Updates on two of Atlantic Canada's most significant offshore developments highlighted the second day of the Energy NL Conference & Exhibition, as industry leaders, regulators and energy companies outlined opportunities and challenges facing the region's energy sector.

Jim Beresford, Vice President of Equinor Canada, provided an update on the Bay du Nord project, while Jeff Jeworski, Senior Vice President, Atlantic Region, Cenovus Energy, discussed progress on the West White Rose development and the engineering effort behind its concrete gravity structure.

Conference attendees also heard from Tracey Power, Chief Financial Officer of North Atlantic Group of Companies, who outlined the company's continued expansion efforts, including its $1.9-billion wind and clean fuels project and refinery operations in France.

Regulatory reform emerged as a key theme of the day, with Scott Tessier, Chief Executive Officer of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Energy Regulator, and Terry Hubbard, President of the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, discussing efforts to improve permitting efficiency while maintaining environmental and safety standards.

Another session focused on Indigenous participation in energy development, highlighting opportunities for long-term partnerships, ownership and economic participation in major projects across Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Day Two of the Energy NL Conference & Exhibition 2026 continued to showcase the significant energy resources of our province,” said Charlene Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Energy NL. Johnson said discussions on project development, regulatory efficiency and Indigenous participation left attendees more confident about the region's path forward.

The conference concludes June 4 with additional discussions focused on Atlantic Canada's growing role in global energy markets, including opportunities in offshore oil and gas, renewable energy and emerging technologies.
