bp expands technical services partnership with ONGC offshore India
(WO) — ONGC has expanded its technical services partnership with bp by awarding the company a new contract to support production optimization across India's Western Offshore basin, the country's largest producing offshore region.
The agreement extends the companies' collaboration beyond Mumbai High, where bp was appointed technical services provider in 2025. According to ONGC, the first year of work at Mumbai High helped moderate production decline through well optimization, enhanced reservoir surveillance and improvements in well and facility management.
Under the new agreement, bp will work alongside ONGC's multidisciplinary teams to identify and implement production enhancement opportunities across reservoirs, wells and surface facilities throughout the Western Offshore basin.
ONGC will retain full ownership and operational control of the assets, while bp will provide technical expertise and deploy advanced technologies and operating practices aimed at improving hydrocarbon recovery, increasing operational efficiency and supporting sustained production growth.
The Western Offshore Basin comprises 43 blocks and has served as ONGC's principal producing region for more than four decades. The company currently accounts for approximately 64% of India's domestic crude oil and natural gas production.
"Building on the encouraging outcomes at Mumbai High, this expanded collaboration will support improved recovery, greater efficiency and sustained production growth," said ONGC Chairman and CEO Arun Kumar Singh.
Under the contract, bp will receive a fixed fee during the first two years, followed by a performance-based service fee tied to incremental hydrocarbon production generated through the collaboration.
"We look forward to bringing bp's global expertise to support enhanced production from the Western Offshore Basin and strengthen India's energy security," said Kartikeya Dube, chairman of bp India and senior vice president at bp.
The agreement represents another step in ONGC's strategy to maximize production from mature offshore assets through the application of advanced reservoir management and production optimization technologies.
