Murphy awards Subsea7 contract for String Music subsea tieback

June 02, 2026

(WO) — Subsea7 has been awarded a contract by Murphy Exploration & Production Company, a subsidiary of Murphy Oil, to support development of the String Music project in the Gulf of America/Gulf of Mexico.

The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction and offshore installation of a production flowline and associated subsea infrastructure that will tie the development back to the Delta House production facility in Mississippi Canyon Block 431. Water depths along the project reach approximately 1,850 meters.

Subsea7 classified the award as a sizeable contract, valued between $50 million and $150 million.

Project management and engineering activities are set to begin immediately from Subsea7's Houston office, while offshore installation work is scheduled for 2027.

“This award reflects the strength of our collaborative approach with Murphy as we develop a more standardized and efficient delivery model that improves predictability and helps accelerate project execution across their developments, including the String Music fields in the U.S. Gulf,” said Craig Broussard, Senior Vice President for Subsea7 U.S.

The String Music development will be tied back to the Delta House floating production system, a hub that serves multiple deepwater fields in the Mississippi Canyon area. The project represents another subsea tieback development in the Gulf as operators continue to pursue cost-effective pathways to bring new resources online using existing infrastructure.
