Petrobras awards SBM Offshore contracts for two Brazil FPSOs

May 29, 2026

(WO) — SBM Offshore has secured contracts from Petrobras to design, build and operate two floating production, storage and offloading vessels (FPSOs) for the Sergipe-Alagoas (SEAP) development offshore Brazil.

Under the agreements, Petrobras-led consortia will own the FPSOs, while SBM Offshore will provide operations and maintenance services under separate contracts for an initial period of 6.5 years.

The projects, designated SEAP-I (P-81) and SEAP-II (P-87), will be deployed in the Sergipe-Alagoas basin offshore northeastern Brazil. Both units will utilize SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward design and incorporate the company’s 11th and 12th multipurpose new-build hulls.

The SEAP-II FPSO is designed to process 120,000 bopd and treat 425 MMcfd of associated gas, with water injection capacity of 120,000 bpd. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2030 and will operate approximately 80 km offshore in about 2,500 m of water.

The SEAP-I FPSO will also have oil production capacity of 120,000 bopd and will be capable of treating 355 MMcfd of associated gas. Water injection capacity is designed at 200,000 bpd. Delivery is planned for 2031, with the vessel operating approximately 100 km offshore in water depths of about 2,500 m.

Both developments will be connected to an export pipeline system that will transport associated gas directly to shore for commercial use. The configuration is intended to support domestic natural gas supply while reducing the need for offshore flaring and gas reinjection.

SBM Offshore said the projects will incorporate advanced onboard gas treatment systems designed to enhance gas monetization alongside oil production.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by Petrobras to provide the FPSOs for the Sergipe-Alagoas development in Brazil,” said Øivind Tangen, chief executive officer of SBM Offshore. “The advanced gas treatment requirements are a good fit for SBM Offshore’s expertise, and the export gas from the development will help boost the availability of gas for the region.”

The awards further expand SBM Offshore’s long-standing relationship with Petrobras and reinforce the company’s position as a major supplier of floating production systems for Brazil’s offshore developments.
