TotalEnergies targets Egypt deep offshore potential through new agreement
(WO) — TotalEnergies and Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) covering offshore exploration cooperation in northwestern Egypt as the companies continue evaluating deep offshore resource potential in the region.
The agreement establishes a framework for technical cooperation and preliminary exploration activities across a large offshore area located in the northwestern part of Egypt’s offshore acreage.
According to the companies, the scope of work will include subsurface evaluation and early-stage exploration studies aimed at assessing the region’s deep offshore hydrocarbon potential.
“We are pleased to launch this cooperation with EGAS, which reflects our shared ambition to further strengthen our partnership with the Arab Republic of Egypt,” said Nicola Mavilla, senior vice president exploration at TotalEnergies. “This agreement will support the assessment of Egypt’s deep offshore exploration potential.”
The agreement was signed in Paris and marks another step in Egypt’s ongoing efforts to attract international upstream investment and expand offshore exploration activity in the Mediterranean region.
Egypt has continued positioning offshore natural gas development as a strategic component of its broader energy and export growth plans, particularly as operators pursue new deepwater opportunities across the Eastern Mediterranean.
