SLB launches new geosteering tool to enhance reservoir visibility
(WO) - SLB has introduced a new reservoir mapping system designed to enhance real-time subsurface visibility and support more precise drilling and geosteering decisions.
The AlphaSight system integrates multi-depth resistivity measurements with downhole computing to provide earlier and clearer insight into formation characteristics ahead of the bit. By extending the range and resolution of reservoir data, the technology is intended to help operators optimize well placement, improve reservoir contact and reduce drilling uncertainty in complex environments.
The system is configured to operate without compromising rate of penetration, allowing drilling teams to maintain performance while accessing additional subsurface information. It also supports faster interpretation and decision-making during drilling operations, contributing to more consistent well delivery.
According to the company, the technology has been deployed in multiple basins, including the Middle East, North Sea, North America and Asia, where it has been used to improve geosteering accuracy and overall drilling outcomes.
The introduction of the system reflects broader industry efforts to integrate higher-resolution data and digital workflows into drilling operations, particularly as operators target more complex reservoirs and extended-reach wells.
Advances in real-time mapping and measurement technologies are playing an increasing role in reducing nonproductive time and improving well performance, supporting more efficient field development strategies.
