IKM Testing awarded role on Northern Endurance CO₂ transport and storage project

March 27, 2026

(WO) - IKM Testing UK has been awarded a contract to deliver pre-commissioning services for pipeline infrastructure on the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) carbon capture and storage project in eastern England.

Working under main contractor Saipem, the company will support preparation of CO₂ transport and storage systems linking industrial emitters across Teesside and the Humber to offshore storage sites in the North Sea. The development forms a key part of the UK’s East Coast Cluster, one of the country’s flagship CCUS initiatives.

Scope of work includes pipeline flooding, cleaning, gauging and hydrotesting—core pre-commissioning activities required to verify integrity and ensure systems are ready for safe CO₂ injection and long-term operation.

NEP is developing the onshore and offshore infrastructure needed to transport captured emissions from some of the UK’s most carbon-intensive industrial regions to secure geological storage beneath the North Sea. The project is expected to play a central role in advancing the country’s carbon reduction targets and supporting large-scale deployment of CCUS.

“Pre-commissioning is a critical stage in the delivery of any major pipeline system, particularly for CO₂ infrastructure where safety and integrity are paramount,” said Barry Summers, regional director at IKM Testing UK.

The award strengthens IKM Testing’s position in the growing carbon capture market, while highlighting the continued role of North Sea supply chain companies in delivering energy transition infrastructure.
