TotalEnergies advances offshore Lebanon exploration with Block 8 entry

January 09, 2026

(WO) - TotalEnergies has signed an agreement with the Lebanese government to enter the Block 8 offshore exploration permit, alongside partners Eni and QatarEnergy.

Under the terms of the permit, the consortium plans to acquire a 1,200-km² 3D seismic survey to further evaluate the block’s exploration potential. TotalEnergies will serve as operator with a 35% interest, while Eni holds 35% and QatarEnergy 30%.

“Although the drilling of the Qana well on Block 9 did not give positive results, we remain committed to pursue our exploration activities in Lebanon," said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies. "We will now focus our efforts on Block 8, together with our partners Eni and QatarEnergy and in close cooperation with Lebanese authorities.”
