Chevron, NNPC confirm hydrocarbon discovery at Awodi-07 well offshore Nigeria
Nigeria’s state energy company and Chevron have confirmed a hydrocarbon discovery at the Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well in the shallow offshore western Niger Delta, reinforcing the prospectivity of the area and the partners’ offshore portfolio.
Nigerian National Petroleum Company said the well was drilled by Chevron Nigeria Limited under the NNPC–Chevron joint venture as part of an ongoing exploration and appraisal program aimed at delineating additional reserves.
Drilling operations began in late November 2025 and concluded in mid-December 2025. According to NNPC, the well was drilled safely and in compliance with regulatory and operational standards before being secured following testing, logging, and data acquisition.
Preliminary results confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons across multiple reservoir intervals, providing additional confidence in the underlying asset and supporting further evaluation of development options.
NNPC said the Awodi-07 outcome highlights the role of continued offshore exploration in supporting Nigeria’s production outlook and energy security. The company added that the discovery reflects technical collaboration between the joint-venture partners and ongoing upstream reforms under Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Act.
Chevron Nigeria and NNPC operate several oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta under their joint-venture agreement, with Chevron holding a 40% interest and NNPC the remaining stake.
