TMC lines up compressor deliveries for Chalchi FSO at Trion deepwater field
TMC Compressors has been awarded a contract by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry to deliver a complete marine compressed air system for SBM Offshore’s newbuild floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit, Chalchi.
The FSO Chalchi is being constructed for deployment at the Trion deepwater oil field offshore Mexico. Under the contract, TMC will supply a medium-sized marine compressed air system, including compressors for instrument and control air, as well as air dryers and filtration equipment to meet specified onboard air quality requirements. The contract value was not disclosed.
“SBM Offshore demands top quality equipment lifetime from their suppliers. To be involved in another one of their projects, together with COSCO, both sharpens and excites us. This is an important project for Mexico,” said Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.
TMC said its compressor systems are designed specifically for offshore and marine applications, with an emphasis on ease of maintenance by vessel crews, low energy consumption, and reduced operating costs and emissions.
The Suezmax-based FSO Chalchi will feature a disconnectable turret mooring system engineered by SBM Offshore and will be installed at the Trion field in approximately 2,500 m of water. The unit will have storage capacity of up to 950,000 bbl of crude oil.
TMC Compressors is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.
