Chevron starts production at South N’dola platform offshore Angola
Chevron has achieved first oil from its South N’dola platform offshore Angola, marking a key milestone in the company’s long-running operations in the country.
First oil was delivered in December, just over two years after construction began on the platform, which is located in Block 0. Block 0 is one of Angola’s most prolific offshore producing areas and accounts for about 12% of the country’s daily energy output.
The South N’dola development was designed to leverage existing offshore infrastructure to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Production from the platform is tied back to the nearby Mafumeira processing facility, where oil and gas are handled before being transported to export terminals. The tieback approach eliminates the need for dedicated processing equipment on the new platform.
Chevron said the project aligns with its strategy of maximizing output from existing offshore assets. The company operates Block 0 and deepwater Block 14 through its subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd.
Chevron has been active in Angola for more than 70 years and remains one of the country’s largest international energy operators. During construction, the South N’dola project generated more than 800 local jobs, and the platform is expected to supply oil and gas to domestic facilities now that production has begun.
