McDermott awarded contract for major offshore gas development in Brunei

December 09, 2025

McDermott has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract by PETRONAS Carigali Brunei Ltd. for a large offshore natural gas development in Brunei Darussalam, marking one of the country’s most significant conventional gas projects.

The award follows McDermott’s earlier delivery of front-end engineering design (FEED), as well as engineering optimization and project readiness activities. Under the EPCIC scope, McDermott will execute a subsea production system and associated infrastructure, including umbilicals, risers and flowlines, to connect six wells to a floating production unit for gas recovery.

McDermott will also deliver EPCIC services for a gas export pipeline, which will transport production to Brunei’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, supporting both domestic supply and LNG export commitments.

“Transitioning from FEED to a full EPCIC award underscores McDermott’s engineering capabilities and proven track record in delivering complex subsea developments,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, senior vice president, Subsea and Floating Facilities. He added that the project reflects the company’s collaborative approach with customers to unlock engineering value and execute safely and efficiently.

Project management will be led from McDermott’s engineering center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with support from teams across its global offices and execution sites. Once developed, the gas field is expected to provide a long-term source of natural gas for Brunei, reinforcing the country’s energy security and LNG export strategy.
