Qatar offshore operator taps Vissim for new vessel collision avoidance system

December 08, 2025

A Qatar-based offshore operator has selected Norway’s Vissim to supply a digital vessel collision avoidance system designed to enhance maritime awareness and improve safety at an undisclosed oil and gas field.

Under the three-year contract, Vissim will deploy its software-based monitoring platform, which aggregates millions of data points — including AIS signals and other vessel inputs — to provide a real-time picture of marine traffic around offshore assets. The system is intended to help operators track vessel movements, reduce collision risk, and strengthen protection of personnel and infrastructure.

“The project demonstrates how digital maritime solutions can sharpen situational awareness in offshore environments,” said Benedicte Stiberg, Vissim’s Regional Director for the Middle East.

The system is expected to be operational in the first half of 2026. Vissim continues to expand its footprint in the Middle East, where its maritime domain awareness technologies support major offshore operators and port authorities.
