ABL, PMS launch unified rig-moving service to boost offshore efficiency in Egypt
(WO) - Global marine and energy consultancy ABL has partnered with Egypt’s Petroleum Marine Services Co. (PMS) to introduce an integrated rig-moving service for operators working in the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez. The initiative is backed by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and is intended to streamline offshore logistics, reduce downtime and raise operational consistency across two of Egypt’s most active basins.
According to PMS Chairman and Managing Director Amr Badway, operators have been pushing for a more standardized framework to support rig moves and associated marine services. “This service directly responds to the needs of production companies that seek a unified operational model that delivers efficiency and reliability,” he said.
The partnership will offer centralized operational control for the Red Sea, site surveys, risk and weather analysis, towing capacity up to 126 t bollard pull, and access to ROV and seabed survey capabilities. Both companies say the standardized workflow is designed to lower operating costs and improve rig utilization.
ABL will serve as the technical and engineering partner, bringing experience from more than 1,500 global rig moves. “The dynamic marine environment in Egypt will definitely benefit from a unified operational framework,” said Captain Stephen Craig, ABL’s director for rig operations. He added that knowledge transfer to local teams will be a key part of the collaboration.
Tamer Gamil, ABL’s country manager in Egypt, said the partnership will support the offshore sector with marine warranty, engineering and rig-move assurance services. “Bringing ABL’s methodologies into the Egyptian market creates a significant step forward in strengthening operational consistency and readiness,” he said.
PMS, established in 2001 as a subsidiary of EGPC, is a core service provider for offshore oil and gas construction projects in Egypt. ABL is part of the Oslo-listed ABL Group ASA.
