KOREG brings Autour field online, marking first oil for a Gabonese private operator
Komo Ressources Group (KOREG) has achieved first oil at the Autour field, becoming the first privately held Gabonese operator to bring a new field onstream. The project, located onshore Gabon, reached initial production on Nov. 27, 2025.
Komo Ressources signed an exploration and production sharing agreement with the Ministry of Petroleum in April 2024 and moved the field through appraisal, development and commissioning in less than two years. Development work included construction of a new central processing facility, drilling two wells and executing associated surface infrastructure. China Oil HBP Group served as the main development contractor.
The project comes amid efforts by Gabon’s government to revive onshore activity, modernize upstream regulations and increase participation by domestic companies. Recent reforms under President Brice Oligui Nguema and the Ministry of Oil and Gas aim to streamline project approvals and attract new investment, particularly for mature fields and underdeveloped acreage.
With Autour now producing, Komo Ressources becomes part of a broader push to boost output following several years of declining national production. The company’s progress also reflects growing interest in expanding the role of indigenous operators alongside long-established international players active in Gabon’s upstream sector.
Further development activities are expected as the Autour field ramps up and additional onshore prospects are evaluated under the country’s updated regulatory framework.
