Freeport LNG to restart full operations following Hurricane Beryl damage in Texas

Freeport LNG shut down on July 7 in preparation for Hurricane Beryl, a Category 1 hurricane that formed on July 4 and dissipated on July 14, 2024. Beryl brought maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and heavy rainfall, causing significant damage and disruptions, including the shutdown of critical facilities like Freeport LNG. During the shutdown, the U.S. LNG export capacity was reduced by nearly 20%, as Freeport's 2.2 Bcfd capacity was offline.

Since the shutdown, Freeport LNG has been gradually increasing its feedgas demand while conducting repairs for the damage caused by the hurricane. Sunday marked the first instance since July 7 that the plant reached near its full capacity.

The disruption caused by Hurricane Beryl led to temporary reductions in U.S. LNG exports, contributing to fluctuations in global gas prices. Freeport LNG's gradual return to full production is a significant step towards stabilizing these markets. Freeport was not immediately available for comment.
