EnerMech completes milestone deepwater project for Gulf of Mexico
(WO) — EnerMech has completed a milestone pre-commissioning project for a major U.S. energy infrastructure company in the Gulf of Mexico, marking the organization’s largest nitrogen membrane spread to be deployed to date in this geography.
The contract, first awarded in August 2023, was completed over an 11-month period and saw the business deliver its first ever 10,000 SCFM nitrogen spread in water depths of 8,800 ft.
EnerMech provided a turn-key service covering the delivery of specialized services for oil and gas export pipelines for the midstream operator.
That included chartering three light construction vessels (LCVs), coiled tubing and the design and fabrication of pig launchers and receivers. By working directly, their client, benefited from significant project efficiencies by eliminating the requirement to liaise with other third-party providers.
Services for both the oil and gas export pipelines included flooding, cleaning, gauging, hydrotesting, and dewatering. EnerMech deployed its in-house designed Remote Flooding Console (RFC) and Subsea Test Pump (STP) to manage free flooding and hydrotesting at a water depth of 8,800 feet. In addition, multiple high-flow triplex pumps were utilized for hydrotesting the oil export pipeline. A single vessel was equipped for the 10,000 SCFM nitrogen membrane spread, which comprised 18 compressors, 5 nitrogen membranes, 7 nitrogen boosters, and 2 7/8” coiled tubing units.
Working out of EnerMech’s Houston base, the project was safely delivered by a specialist offshore staff of 30 personnel, including field supervisors, engineers and technicians.
“We are extremely proud to have completed this project, with a number of significant achievements accomplished along the way," said EnerMech CEO Charles ‘Chuck’ Davison Jr. "The quick and efficient undertaking of these services to the highest standard is testament to the ability and dedication of both our team in Houston and the strong relationship built with this major U.S. midstream operator.
“I’d like to thank Brennon Fitzgerald (General Manager – Process and Pipeline) and the team for their immense efforts over the course of the last year and also to our customer for trusting us to get the job done in a timely manner.”
“This success not only highlights our deepwater expertise but also our commitment to delivering turn-key solutions for clients to overcome complex challenges," said Frazer Thomson, Vice President – Operations (Americas) at EnerMech. "We have a strong track record in the Gulf of Mexico and a deep understanding of the region which enabled us to identify and deploy the most suitable solution for our customer.”
