Saudi Aramco’s Al-Naimi receives GEI Award for Energy Leader of the Year
Nasir K. Al-Naimi, President of Saudi Aramco’s Upstream business line segment, was the recipient of Gulf Energy Information’s (GEI) 2023 Energy Leader of the Year Award on Wednesday night at GEI’s Energy Excellence Awards event in Houston. Held at the Post Oak Hotel, the black-tie gala recognized the energy industry’s leading innovations and thought leaders in 43 categories. GEI is World Oil’s parent company.
Award definition. The Energy Leader of the Year Award recognizes an individual, who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her organization and field, demonstrating excellent leadership and ambassadorial skills, making a demonstrable impact to the bottom line, and has shown creativity and developed talent. Mr. Al-Naimi leads Saudi Aramco’s Upstream unit, whose activities consist of exploring for, developing and producing crude oil, condensate, natural gas and NGLs. He also serves as Chairman of the Saudi Aramco Upstream Technology Company and is a board member of Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures and the Saudi Aramco Technology Company.
Under Mr. Al-Naimi’s leadership, Aramco is reinventing upstream by making exploration, drilling and production more fit-for-purpose for tomorrow’s world—smarter, safer, more efficient, and more sustainable while increasing the maximum sustainable capacity from 12 MMbopd to 13 MMbopd by 2027. The firm is also working to increase gas production by more than 50%, by the end of this decade.
While not able to attend in person, Mr. Al-Naimi thanked the organizers in a statement for receiving the award. “For Aramco,” he said, “maintaining our position as a leading integrated energy and chemicals company means constantly evolving our business, while maximizing long-term value for our shareholders. Upstream has a pivotal role to play in ensuring a reliable supply of energy to the global economy, while simultaneously paving the way for a realistic and robust energy transition. This award is an honor that reflects the excellence and innovation of our employees.”
