Tenaris to open sucker rods manufacturing facility in Conroe, Texas
HOUSTON -- Tenaris will open its sucker rods manufacturing facility in Conroe, Texas, in July 2019, offering customers high quality sucker rods and accessories, produced
domestically, further streamlining the U.S. supply chain.
Tenaris will start preparing the mill in March, training plant employees, activating mill systems and
equipment to ensure a safe startup for operations and in line with the company’s integrated principles
for quality, health, safety and the environment.
“With this investment, we are better positioned to serve our customers in the U.S. shales in their artificial
lift operations, offering a wide range of locally produced products, and with the support of our new
service center in Midland, we also have the flexibility to respond quickly and efficiently,” said Luca
Zanotti, Tenaris president, USA.
The $70 million investment is equipped with advanced technologies to optimize efficiencies and
reduce production times. The facility includes non-destructive testing (NDT), a state-of-the-art quality
testing lab, robotized forging lines, and heat treatment, threading and finishing processes. The rods mill
also has an on site training facility and classroom.
The new sucker rods mill has the capability to manufacture BlueRod premium sucker rods and XTorque
rods, as well as the entire range of API sucker rods for beam and progressive cavity pumping.
Sucker rods produced at the facility will be sent to customer sites or stored at Tenaris’s new service
center for sucker rods in Midland which was inaugurated in December. The facility handles the
storage, preparation and delivery of rods products and services, and includes an industrial building with
equipment to perform the injection of a wide range of guides onto the rods.
Tenaris completed construction of the facility in 2017 but postponed its opening due to the prolonged
market downturn.
“Tenaris will continue its leading role in the manufacture of sucker rods and accessories with a global
annual production capacity of 4.5 million units with plants in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Romania and
now the United States,” added Alejandro Levrino, Tenaris V.P., Sucker Rods.
The company has 50 years of experience in the manufacture of products for Artificial Lift Systems and
the new mill extends its global reach.
