Unimin makes history by shipping longest frac sand unit train on record

July 06, 2015

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Unimin Energy Solutions has announced the delivery of the energy industry's longest frac sand unit train.

Unimin, together with Union Pacific Railroad and Twin Eagle Sand Logistics, LLC, delivered a 140 car unit train to the Mission Rail Terminal in the heart of the Eagle Ford shale at Elmendorf, Texas. The unit train, powered by four diesel engines and measuring 6,200 ft, is the largest single frac sand rail delivery on record.

"Our objective is to help our customers drive cost out of the supply chain," said Rob Ricker, Unimin Energy Solutions general sales manager for the Southern Region. "The scale, service and efficiency achieved with this unit train is just another way Unimin adds value as we deliver high quality UNIFRAC proppants to the Eagle Ford."

In addition to its unit train capabilities, Unimin operates a network of 36 frac sand terminals in North America. The company has strategically located four storage and rail transfer terminals in the Eagle Ford to efficiently serve the play and minimize last mile trucking to both the eastern and western fields.
