Apache, Inpex produce first oil from Australia's Coniston field

TOKYO, Japan -- Inpex Corp., through its wholly owned subsidiary Inpex Alpha, Ltd., started production from Coniston oil field, offshore Western Australia, on Sunday.

The Coniston oil field project is operated by Apache, which owns a participating interest of 52.501%. Inpex holds the remaining 47.499%.

Coniston oil field covers an area of 45 km2 and saddles Blocks WA-35-L and WA-55-L. The water depth is 380 m.

Coniston field is located 6 km north of Van Gogh oil field, where Inpex is engaged in oil production activities.

Oil produced from Coniston is processed and stored on the FPSO vessel servicing Van Gogh field. The average production rate during the first year is expected to amount to approximately 18,000 bopd.
