MILAN -- Eni, together with Statoil, Sasol and ENH, has been awarded the exploration and development rights for Block A5-A, following the 5th Competitive Mozambique Bid Round.

The block, which covers a total area of 5,145 km2 and has a water depth between 200 m and 1,800 m, is within an unexplored area of the Northern Zambesi basin, which the consortium believes will hold significant hydrocarbon resources.

Eni, through its subsidiary Eni Mozambico, is the operator of the joint venture, with a 34% stake. The other partners are Statoil and Sasol, with 25.5% each, and ENH, with 15%.

Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006.
