Marine Contracting goes 'down under'

PERTH, Australia -- Marine Contracting has reported that it has opened its Australian office in Perth, as it seeks to bring its industry leading engineering and offshore marine solutions to the growing Australian offshore market.

Key services that Marine Contracting will provide to Australian operators include, permanent mooring and riser installations, pre-lay mooring for drilling rigs, and rig moving services for jack-ups. Marine Contracting will also be opening a new yard to house its offshore equipment in Karratha.

Petter Nilsen, BDD of Marine Contracting, will lead the company’s expanded focus in Australia, having already helped to popularise pre-lay mooring in Australia in his previous role as CEO of Viking Moorings (now Viking Seatech) and head of their Asia Pacific operations.

Petter Nilsen said, “Marine Contracting is all about professionalism, the highest standards in HSSEQ and smart engineering solutions, for moving operator offshore assets quickly and effectively. We also understand the significant operational and uptime benefits of pre-lay mooring solutions, and are committed to providing these to Australian operators. It’s great to be back and we look forward to growing our market share in Australia over the coming months.”

Wolfgang Wandl, CEO of Marine Contracting, concurs, “Marine Contracting’s technical expertise and breadth of services make us ideally suited to the Australian market. With Petter at the helm and his track-record of past Australian success, we are confident of fast becoming the regional leader in offshore engineering, transportation and installation.”

According to the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA), there are currently $200 billion worth of new projects under construction, offshore Australia.

Australia also continues to lead the way in LNG developments, with its exports of LNG increasing 88% between 2005 and 2012, despite the recent drop in oil & gas prices.
