Intelligent wireline formation testing platform enables dynamic reservoir characterization

Schlumberger has introduced a new intelligent wireline formation testing platform, leveraging a new architecture and metrology for enhanced performance. This enables dynamic reservoir characterization in any condition. The platform, called Ora, is rated to 392°F and 35,000 psi. According to the company, it features a new focused radial probe, a dual-inlet dual packer, laboratory-grade metrology, new instruments and the highest flowrate pump in the industry. Built on a digital infrastructure, the platform’s hardware can automate complex workflows, reduce operating time by more than 50% and deliver precise fluid analysis and zero contamination samples. It also allows for real-time decisions and a cloud-native environment. The Ora platform reportedly has completed more than 30 field trials in the North Sea, West Africa, North Africa, Central America, the Middle East and the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Multi-arm calipers deliver advanced measurement quality, reliability

Probe has released a new series of multi-arm caliper tools. Designed to increase measurement accuracy, reliability and maintainability, ProMAC series tools reportedly offer the industry’s most advanced measurements to provide an accurate profile of the internal surface of tubing, casing and completion assemblies. It delivers highly sensitive, accurate multi-arm caliper measurements over a wide range of casing and tubing diameters at a vertical resolution of 0.0001-in., as well as exceptional temperature stability. According to the company, this series of tools also features an unparalleled resolution and fast sampling rate. The ProMAC 24, the first tool in the series, reportedly is now available. The 1-11/16-in. OD tool maps the internal condition of production tubing, casing and completion jewelry within a measurement range of 1.69 to 7 in.

New compact VFD reduces commissioning time

Rockwell Automation’s Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 6000 medium Voltage Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is now available in a smaller footprint, helping to save valuable floor space in industrial plants. Offering the same reliability as the original, the new VFD comes in three smaller frame sizes. It is available in configurations ranging from 2.4 to 4.16 kV and 0 to 215 A. Its new all-in-one design allows users to receive the drive in a single shipment, with secondary windings already connected. This reduces commissioning time. Additionally, rear access is not required, making maintenance easier and safer. According to Rockwell, the smaller drive has synchronous bypass capabilities, allowing users to operate one motor continuously with variable speed control, or to start and synchronize multiple motors using just one drive. It also allows users to soft start large motors.

Toe subs improve efficiency in cemented applications

Packers Plus Energy Services Inc. has released a new suite of toe subs to improve stimulation efficiency in cemented applications. The TREX cemented product line offers a selection of hydraulically activated toe subs to serve a variety of operations. According to the company, the toe subs are compatible with all of its multi-stage completion systems. Included in the suite are the Toe-XT Testable Hydraulic Sleeve, the Toe-AP Hydraulic Sleeve and the TREX Wet Shoe Sub. Each of the aforementioned eliminates the operational risk associated with coiled tubing runs for the first stage and help to establish communication with the reservoir post-cementing and prior to stimulation operations. The technology is cost-effective and operationally flexible, according to Packers Plus. This helps reduce risk and saves customers time.
