Zonal isolation improves cement bonding in long horizontals
Schlumberger has launched the CemFIT Shield mud-sealing cement system to address the challenges due to fluid communication behind casing. The system provides the industry’s first zonal isolation technology, designed specifically to improve isolation between hydraulic fracturing stages in long horizontal wells. This is done by interacting with residual, nonaqueous drilling fluids to limit the detrimental effects of channeling and reduce fluid mobility, thus lowering the risk of fracturing fluid migration from zone to zone, behind the casing.
Applications cut costs and time, and minimize environmental risks safely
Tendeka has launched the MajiFrac Solution, a new portfolio of applications that aims to reduce water use and pumping time during completion operations in U.S. unconventional shale plays. The solution includes a uniquely blended, thermally stable, modified acid system that pumps-down to minimize water by-pass.
Pressure pumping fluid end technology reduces operating stress
Gardner Denver Petroleum & Industrial Pumps has launched GDNX, the next generation of fluid end technology. The technology includes redline consumables that extend product life by up to 3.5x, a cross-bore design that reduces maintenance intervals, and a direct fit to existing 2250/2500 pumps.
O-ring provides extrusion resistance in high-pressure applications
Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has launched a polytetrafluoroethylene-based O-Ring, single-acting rotary seal, the Turcon Roto Glyd Ring DXL. This improved O-Ring provides sealing efficiency and reduced friction by balancing the contact force on the dynamic lip, allowing for low torque, and extending service life.
Reservoir modeling software enables better decision-making in less time
Emerson has launched Roxar RMS 11, a powerful set of tools for developing smarter and more interactive reservoir modeling, facies modeling and unified tools for channelized reservoirs and region definition. The suite also includes a new plug-in technology, designed to ensure ideal placement for future web- and cloud-enabled workflows.
Ignitor system eliminates leading cause of zonal isolation failures
GEODynamics has engineered a new power charge ignitor system, the S1 Ignitor and crossover. This duo provides the thermal escalation required to initiate the pyrotechnic compound of a power charge, an improvement over conventional power charge ignitors that have high failure rates, due to reliance on spring contacts. Installed into the switch sub in the space usually occupied by an electronic switch, it completes the circuit by hardwiring the positive and ground wires back to the wireline shooting panel, using the same wiring as the switches and perforating gun detonators. The fail-safe hardwiring feature ensures that connection is not lost during conveyance and mitigates loss of ground, due to galvanic reactions.
Advanced bearing design offers higher, longer load rating life
SKF has developed a new generation of tapered roller thrust bearings to accommodate more powerful top drives, maximize effective carrying capacity, and improve resistance to shock loads and peak forces. The optimized length and diameter, and profile of both rollers and raceways, minimize the risk of edge stresses, and avoids sharp edges and stress peaks.
Hyperbolic diamond element bit reduces drilling costs, improves ROP
Smith Bits, a Schlumberger company, has launched the HyperBlade hyperbolic diamond element bit. The thicker, precision-molded diamond table maintains steering response and directional tracking in soft and plastic rock formations, and cuts 20% deeper into rock, compared with conventional PDC cutters.
Rotary steerable system is cost-efficient, optimizes wellbore placement
Scientific Drilling International has commercialized its HALO high-performance rotary steerable system. The enhanced steering control has a single integrated collar that reduces handling time, risk, and improves overall drilling time. Designed to drill in a single run, the rugged system consistently helps avoid costly trips and improves ROP.
