What’s new in 2016:

  • Global Logistics Zone, hosting a variety of companies that represent the transportation and logistical areas of oil and gas
  • Fracing Site, featuring businesses specializing in fracing technology
  • Digital Oilfield Experience, highlighting those with expertise in the digital oilfield industry
  • Clean Technology Forum, hosting leading companies in the renewables industry.

The Global Petroleum Show (GPS) will take place at Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta—the heart of Canada’s energy sector—from June 7 through June 9. The event, which has been touted as one of the largest energy affairs since it began in 1968, will welcome leading oil and gas companies, business partners, business analysts, and media from 95 countries.

This year’s theme, “Explore and Develop,” will offer executives, engineers and industry leaders the opportunity to network with clients, suppliers and potential customers from all over the world. The event will host 2,000 exhibiting companies, which will showcase their latest technologies, perform live demonstrations, and be featured in an expansive outdoor display of field equipment.

On Tuesday, June 7, at the Agrium Western Events Centre, the show will kick off with the second annual GPS Awards. At the event, industry leaders, who have been driving forces in change and innovation through technology, corporate responsibility and excellence, will be recognized and celebrated.

Later in the evening, the Opening Night Reception will be held at the Hyatt Regency. As GPS’s primary networking event, the reception will allow energy professionals to casually connect over hors d’oeuvres, photo opportunities and live music.

EVENTS

The Energy Leaders Breakfast is scheduled for Wednesday morning, June 8. Attendees will gain a global perspective from influential leaders and innovators over breakfast, where they will engage in discussions about critical issues affecting the energy sector, including supply and demand, enhanced recovery, sustainability and environmental protection. Topics also will include global exploration opportunities, investment, acquisition, IOC/NOC partnerships, and energy security and efficiency.

Later, the International Energy Capital Forum will be held at the Hyatt Regency. The exclusive symposium will introduce strategic business strategies necessary to survive a changing energy environment. Companies that aggressively alter their business models, lower break-even costs, practice capital discipline, and develop innovative ways to collaborate with suppliers and partners, are expected to not only survive the downturn, but potentially thrive. This forum will explore company re-evaluation and look toward the future, to ensure success in the energy atmosphere of tomorrow.

Wednesday evening, after the exhibition closes, attendees can continue to network and meet with clients and colleagues at the official industry party at Cowboys Casino and Dance Hall.

The Indigenous Conference on Energy and Mining will take place on Thursday, June 9. The conference, in partnership with the Indigenous Center of Energy and dmg events, is a forum for indigenous businesses and government leaders from different countries around the world, to connect with oil and gas operators, service company executives and businesses. Panelists will focus on foreign and domestic government officials, as well as the resources that their countries possess.

This year, the energy center also will host its first annual Indigenous Leaders Roundtable, where indigenous leaders can come together, to examine an implementation of indigenous principles. Alan Parker, adjunct professor at The Maori Indigenous University, will discuss best practices in government-to-government consultation, as the event’s keynote speaker.

Held in conjunction with GPS, the 2016 SPE Canada Heavy Oil Technical Conference will host the presentation of papers on current technologies and advancements. With the theme, “Technology Meets the Challenges,” the conference will expand corporate and individual knowledge of technologies aiding in more sustainable means of production. It will cover the geosciences, and thermal, non-thermal and hybrid recovery processes for oil sands and heavy oil. With more than 85 presentations scheduled—primarily subsurface-focused—approximately 500 engineers, geologists and professionals involved in the heavy oil industry are expected to attend.

A NEW ENERGY FUTURE

Last year, GPS’s Doghouse was such a success that it is back, and bigger than ever. The Doghouse is a “Dragons
Den”-style pitch competition that provides industry exposure to budding entrepreneurs. With this year’s competition theme, “Cleaner and Leaner,” entrepreneurs will be challenged to highlight specifically what makes their technologies better for the environment, and improves the bottom lines of their customers.

Additionally, the Career Development Zone will educate, support and inspire industry professionals with a series of career-focused seminars led by industry experts. Each session will focus on the development of skills, techniques and tactics involved in securing new job opportunities. Topics of discussion will include insight into the Calgary labor market’s new reality and setting expectations; how to re-purpose your skillset and rebrand yourself; optimizing your job search; networking for introverts; entrepreneurship; and upgrading your skillsets.

In keeping with the GPS theme, the Low Carbon Innovation Forum will introduce the latest advances in innovation and technology development related to carbon management and clean technology. In four sessions, attendees will hear from SMEs, which are successfully developing and investing in low-carbon and clean technologies; industry experts, who are building large-scale projects to reduce and store emissions; funding organizations that provide support for companies developing cutting-edge technology solutions; and experts working to reduce methane emissions, to meet government standards. Linda Coady, chief sustainability officer at Enbridge, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker.

WHAT’S NEW

GPS will debut several new programs and conferences for 2016. The Global Logistics Zone, Fracing Site, Digital Oilfield Experience and Clean Technology Forum are all brand-new to GPS this year.

The Global Logistics Zone will host leading businesses involved in the transportation and logistical areas of oil and gas. These companies will represent everything from packaging to documentation, and from insurance to storage. Additionally, companies will cover importing/exporting regulations, freight damage claims, vendor and partner management, and risk mitigation.

The Fracing Innovation Zone will feature companies specializing in fracing technology. The Fracing site will showcase fracturing fluid blenders, high-horsepower fracturing pumpers, chemical additive units, iron truck and trailers, high-pressure lines, pumping units, and much more.

With billions being spent on mobile applications, the Digital Oilfield Experience will explore the emerging digital oilfield era of oil and gas. The event will host companies with expertise in drone technology, data collection, mobile devices and software. It will combine business process management with advanced information technology and engineering expertise, to simplify and, in many cases, automate tasks performed by multi-functional teams.

Lastly, businesses representing the renewables industry will be featured at the Clean Technology Forum. The event will bring together companies focused on solar, wind, rain, waves and geothermal heat, and will examine what the future holds for the clean and renewable energy industry. wo-box_blue.gif
