World Oil's 100-Year Anniversary
The era of 1916–38 was one of great destruction and high creativity.
Published in September 1916 by Gulf Publishing Company, the Gulf Coast Oil News was a weekly publication devoted to covering fast-moving oil developments on the Gulf Coast, particularly Goose Creek field on the Houston Ship Channel.
Gulf Publishing Company launched the Composite Catalog of Oil Field Equipment and Services in 1927 as a way of capitalizing on the success of its new products and services section, and show equipment guides, in The Oil Weekly.
In the April 20, 1918, edition, Gulf Publishing Company announced The Oil Weekly as the new name for the magazine.
The 1916–1938 era was still a man’s world.
As fitting for a publishing company funded by Texas’ leading oilmen, Gulf Publishing Company occupied prime office space in Houston.
