Cuttings dryer recovers oil

A 5-year-old drilling waste management operation employing a M-I SWACO Verti-G cuttings dryer has recovered some $4.5 million worth of commercial grade oil in Algeria’s Sahara Desert. Since beginning the operation in 2001, the dryer package has been used on more than 147 wells, where it has recovered more than 84,000 bbl of oil. The package includes the dryer, a SWACO 414 centrifuge, a screw-conveying system and fluid tanks for flushing and recovery.

“This is probably the largest Verti-G operation in the world. We are very proud of the achievement, which resulted primarily from the work of our field personnel. This is a very remote area and working conditions are extreme,” says Carlos Barros, Algeria Drilling Waste Management technical sales manager. WO
