OE '15: ABB showcases new products and thought leadership

September 08, 2015

ABERDEEN -- ABB will showcase new cost saving technology and experts will deliver a series of technical talks at Offshore Europe.

ABB has developed two new products, named ABB InSight and X-Wave, that have been designed in response to the industry’s growing need to maximize cost reduction while increasing production efficiency and maintaining safety.

ABB InSight is the first-of-its-kind crawler inspection robot, which reduces down time, inspection costs and risks of secondary damage. Fitted with five cameras, the device is used to crawl in the air gap between the stator and rotor of a motor or generator to visually inspect its status without needing to be removed.

The X-Wave is a cost effective, accurate motion compensation system. The advanced universal device has been designed for Subsea and Well Intervention winch systems and continuously adapts to changing dynamics.

ABB are also hosting a series of technical talks that respond to key industry issues; production efficiency, cost reduction and support during late life and decommissioning. The 20-minute talks will be presented hourly on the ABB stand every day during Offshore Europe, with the opportunity to ask questions as well as to meet other ABB experts.

ABB’s Martin Grady, Oil, Gas and Chemicals Manager UK, says, “We are proud to be able to demonstrate some of ABB’s latest developments on our stand at Offshore Europe and showcase our latest subsea technology and systems, alongside our integrated operations. ABB InSight and X-Wave in particular, are two of the latest devices which help towards cost reduction and production efficiency.”

Other stand attractions include the chance to experience a virtual reality tour of an oil and gas facility using Oculus Rift technology; a 3D flythrough of ABB’s offerings. There will also be a number of demonstrations illustrating how integrated operations technology can be fully exploited offshore.
