Inaugural ShaleTech Canada offers unique forum for networking, technology sharing

Adrienne Blume January 29, 2015

CALGARY, Alberta -- ShaleTech Canada 2015 is the premier event for professionals working in the shale oil and gas industry in Canada, which is the world's fifth-largest oil producer.

With a strong focus on technology, attendees will learn about drilling, production and processing advancements from leading operators and technology providers in shale energy.

With estimated technically recoverable reserves of 573 Tcf of shale gas and 8.8 Bbbl of shale oil—most of which is located in western Canada—the country is an important region to watch for shale developments, especially in light of several planned LNG export projects in British Columbia. Prominent shale fields include the Montney region, which runs from western Alberta to northeastern British Columbia, and the Duvernay field in Alberta.

The conference will take place at the Calgary TELUS Convention Center in the heart of downtown Calgary, Alberta, on April 20-22. Up to 15 prospective shale gas formations alone have been identified in the province.

Conference program

A one-day business program on April 20 will include discussions on shale economics and on the breakeven price of oil, shifts in capital spending and allocation, land acquisition/leasing and more.

Following the business program, a dual-track technology program from April 21–22 will focus on the major technical problems facing operators and the cutting-edge solutions that are needed to solve them.

In addition, updates on LNG export plans, specific case histories and the latest details about active basins and shale plays—such as the Horn River Basin, the Duvernay shale, the Montney shale, the Liard basin and the Bakken shale—will be available through various presentations.
