InterAct, an Acteon company, has appointed Val Lerma, P.E., as engineering manager. Lerma will be based in InterAct’s Ventura, California, office and has more than 30 years of experience with major and independent operators.


The Lafayette Chapter of AADE has announced its 2014-2015 board members: Alden Sonnier, president (MI Swaco); David Gomez, first V.P. and programs committee chairman (Chevron); Matt Hensgens, second V.P. and membership committee chairman (Chevron); Jarrod Suire, secretary (Acadiana Inspection & Consulting); and Sharon Moore, treasurer, chapter representative and website committee (Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.).


Fritz Industries, Inc. has hired Steve Almond as R&D director for the company’s new Houston R&D facility. Almond will oversee a staff of researchers, including chemists and laboratory technicians. Almond previously served as Technical Director for MeadWestvaco in Charleston, South Carolina. Almond holds a Ph.D. from Oregon State University, and is a member of SPE, AADE and American Chemical Society.


ProSep has appointed Patrick McCarthy to the board of directors in a non-executive role. McCarthy brings almost four decades of experience to the post, joining from NATCO, where he served as COO since 2006. McCarthy has held senior positions at ABB Lummus Crest, and McDermott International.


Madhu Hariharan has been appointed director of 2H Offshore’s London office. Hariharan will assist in developing 2H Offshore’s client base in Europe and the Middle East. He holds a master’s degree in ocean engineering from Texas A&M University, and has worked for 2H Offshore in its Houston office since 2000.


Bellatrix Exploration has appointed Daniel Lewis and Steven J. Pully to its board. Lewis is co-founder, and managing partner, of New York-based investment fund Orange Capital, LLC. Pully has over 25 years of experience in financial services and legal matters, and has served as general counsel and partner of Carlson Capital, L.P.


FW Telematics has appointed Jeff Douglas as CEO. Douglas was CTO of London-based Pole Star Space Applications Limited, and CEO of Absolute Software Inc., which was acquired by Pole Star in 2011. His appointment follows the retirement of CEO David Blackburn, who will continue to serve as a non-executive director on the board.


Christopher A. Smith has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Department of Energy’s assistant secretary for Fossil Energy. Prior to his federal work, Smith spent 11 years in upstream business development and LNG trading. Smith holds a BS degree in engineering management from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and an MBA from Cambridge University.


Halliburton has named Abdulaziz F. Al Khayyal to its board of directors. Al Khayyal spent more than 30 years at Saudi Aramco, holding a variety of managerial positions in oil and gas operations and maintenance while at Saudi Aramco, including senior V.P. of international operations, and senior V.P. of the refining and marketing division.


Adam Anderson has been appointed CEO of Team Oil Tools. Anderson joined Team following a 14-year career at Baker Hughes, where he held multiple senior-level positions, including V.P. of U.S. Land Completion Tools, and V.P. of Western U.S. for all product lines. Anderson will be based at Team’s headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas.


Mark Strawn has been appointed to the board of directors for Enhanced Oil Resources. Strawn started his career in 1975 with Exxon, and was part of a team that assembled 700,000 acres in South Texas. Strawn is a member of IPAA, Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association, and the East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen.


Layne Christensen has named Michael J. Caliel president and CEO. Caleil served as resident and CEO of Invensys’ Software and Industrial Automation division from 2011 to 2014. Prior to Invensys, Caleil was President, CEO and executive director of Integrated Electrical Services, Inc. from 2006 to 2011. Caliel has also held sales and executive positions at Honeywell, Inc. and ABB, Ltd.


Devon Energy President and CEO John Richels, will retire on July 31, 2015, and Dave Hager, Devon COO, will succeed Richels. The board of directors has elected Richels as vice chairman of the board, with the intent for Richels to replace Larry Nichols as the board’s chairman upon Nichols’ retirement from the board in 2016. At that time, Nichols is expected to become chairman emeritus. Richels joined Devon in 1998, and led Devon Canada until being elected president of Devon in 2004.


TETRA Technologies has hired Keith Schilling as senior V.P.  Prior to joining TETRA, Schilling most recently served as V.P. of Artificial Lift, North America, at Schlumberger. Schilling started his career at Schlumberger in 1995. He earned a BS degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University, and an MBA from Rotterdam University.


The E&P branch of Total will be restructured with five geographical divisions, an exploration division and five functional divisions. The Africa division will be headed by Guy Maurice, the Americas division will be led by Michel Hourcard, and Asia Pacific will be led by Olivier de Langavant. Until Mar. 1, 2015, Jean-Marie Guillermou will remain as V.P. for the Asia Pacific division. The Europe and Central Asia regions will merge, and be led by Michael Borrell. Stéphane Michel will lead the Middle East and North Africa division. Total’s exploration division will be headed by Kevin McLachlan. On the corporate structure level, Pierre Bang will lead the HSE and quality division, André Goffart will head the operations technical support and development division. Martin Deffontaines will lead the growth research division, Namita Shah will lead the corporate affairs division, and Ladislas Paszkiewicz will be appointed senior V.P. of M&A.


Gerald L. Seber, retired administrator and executive secretary for NOMADS (National Oil-equipment Manufacturers and Delegates Society), passed away on Oct. 23, 2014, at the age of 85. During his pre-NOMADS career, Seber worked for Mission Manufacturing, Drillco International, and Eckel Manufacturing, where he was appointed president in 1978. He attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, where he played football and graduated.
