Engineered equipment supplier Robbins & Myers will acquire oilfield and pipeline services provider T3 Energy Services for $422 million in stock and cash. T3 shareholders will subsequently own about 27% of outstanding shares. The acquisition is expected to close in late 2010 or early 2011.


International communications and information technology company Harris Corp. will acquire the Global Connectivity Services (GCS) business from Schlumberger Information Solutions, an operating unit of Schlumberger Ltd. Schlumberger GCS will be combined with CapRock Communications to form Harris CapRock Communications. Harris acquired CapRock in July 2010.


Baker Hughes opened a new Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania, repair and maintenance center to support natural gas well drilling, completion and production operations in the Marcellus Shale. The 57,000-sq-ft center represents a $16 million investment and is part of a multiyear $250 million infrastructure investment to support Marcellus operations. Baker Hughes currently operates from 27 locations and employs about 1,000 people in the region.


Halliburton acquired The Permedia Research Group, a supplier of petroleum systems modeling software and services. It will become a part of the Landmark Software and Services business line. Permedia provides petroleum systems analysis software, with emphasis on fast, high-resolution simulation of fluid flow within basin-scale models.


Schlumberger has opened a research and geoengineering center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Brazil Research and Geoengineering Center is designed to promote the integration of geosciences and engineering to improve hydrocarbon production and recovery from the complex deepwater reservoirs and pre-salt carbonates offshore Brazil. The campus includes a research center, a technology center and a GeoSolutions hub in addition to a number of reservoir laboratories. The center has 10,000 sq ft of floor area, and is the first such Schlumberger facility in the Southern hemisphere. Fully staffed, it will employ up to 300 personnel.


GE Oil & Gas will supply a BOP stack and controls system for installation on a Petroserv-owned drillship for Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME) of South Korea. In addition, GE has been selected by Daewoo to supply two complete drilling packages to be installed on Odebrecht Oil & Gas-owned drillships, each including a 10,000-ft riser system and BOP stacks and controls. Total value of the orders is more than $120 million.


Turblex Inc., which was acquired by Siemens Energy Inc. in 2007, has officially adopted the Siemens name. The company is now known as the Turbomachinery Solutions business segment of the Oil and Gas Division of Siemens Energy. A supplier of high-efficiency centrifugal blowers, Turblex has been part of the Siemens organization for the past three years.
